The thought of What Do I Need to Put my Kid in Dirt Bike Racing was much more overwhelming than actually doing it.

After you've gotten your AMA card and chose what race to put your kid in, here's what to expect at a youth Hare and Hound event.

1. You will check in at the registration booth. Here they will make sure you're signed up, give you your checkpoint card, and scan your helmet so it's ready for the race

2. SOMETIMES, there will be a required soundcheck. It should have been on the flyer. For this race, all the riders with even numbers had to go to sound check.

3. Riders meeting before the race. This is where you and your child can ask any questions. This is where they will go over the rules, what the signs mean, what to expect, and pit situations.

4. The Hare will ride across the starting line holding two fingers up to give the 2 minute warning.

5. Riders need to watch the people holding the banner. As soon as the banner drops, the RACE BEGINS!

6. 50cc bikes don't need to pit but parents are welcome to set up at the pits to watch the kiddos. 65cc bikes MIGHT pit if they're really fast and can get extra laps in. 85cc and up bikes will need to pit. You'll need a mat for the gas can to be set on top of at all times and for the bike to sit on while fueling up as well as a fire extinguisher nearby. Some things that aren't required but helpful are a bike stand and EZ up.

7. After the race, your child will get a finisher pin for finishing the race. Everyone gets a finisher pin

8. Award ceremonies are held same day after the last race of the day. The 50cc races is the 1st race of the day so if that's your class, expect to wait a few hours. Only 1sr, 2nd, and 3rd place racers will get an award.
