Nassau Grouper Close Season in Belize

The closed season for landing of the CRITICALLY-ENDANGERED Nassau grouper is from 1st December to 31st March OF THE FOLLOWING YEAR. During this period, you must refrain from catching, landing or consuming this important species.

It is during this time each year that the Nassau Grouper reproduce, allowing for the continued population and future resources for those whose livelihoods depend on the sea. That way, we are able to achieve the fundamental goals to safeguard our fishing industry.

Remind your friends, family, and fishers of the important role they play in taking care of our marine resources for future generations.
