3rd august is the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Nana Patil, popularly known as Krantisinh. Nana Patil was born in 1900 at Sangli, Maharashtra. He was a founding member of the Hindustan Republican Association. In 1919, Patil began his social work with PrarthanaSamaj. He spent ten years working for the PrarthanaSamaj and the SatyashodhakSamaj for the development of depressed classes. He was against the caste system and throughout his life he fought for the rights of the poor and farmers. Patil was imprisoned many times during the struggle with the British Raj. He went underground for 44 months during the Quit India movement in 1942. Nana Patil had been a founder of the revolutionary Prati-sarkar formed in Sangli district Maharashtra during the Quit India movement. Patil also fought along with AacharyaAtre for the creation of the state of Maharashtra. The noble soul breathed his last on 6 December 1976.

We remember freedom fighter Devdas Gandhi on his death anniversary. He was the youngest son of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba gandhi. Devdas Gandhi was born on 22nd May, 1900, at Durban South Africa. He did not receive any conventional education, but he was well educated in the real sense. He had inherited Gandhiji’s saintliness, judgment, capacity to go into details and desire to be practical.Devdas Gandhi took part in the Non-Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement and Quit India Movement, and was imprisoned three times. When Mahatma Gandhi started seeking help for the establishment of JamiaMilliaIslamia, Devdas also came forward on the call of Gandhiji. He started teaching Hindi there and also cotton spinning. He made journalism his major activity.In 1920-21 he started working in the newspaper ‘Independent’ published from Prayagraj. He also helped his father in bringing out “Young India” and “Navajivan”. Devdas Gandhi died on 3rd August 1957 in Mumbai.

We also remember the freedom fighter Munwar Khan. He was a Resident of Hisar, Haryana. Munawar worked as a sepoy in 7th Haryana Light Infantry of British Indian Army. He took part in fighting against the British army during the first war of independence in 1857. He played an active part in organising fighting at Sirsa. Munawar was caught by the British troops on charge of mutiny against British rule.he was convicted and sentenced to death on 3 August 1857.

We also pay tribute to Raja Pratap Singh. He was the Raja of Kullu who participated in the first war of independence in 1857. Raja Pratap Singh captured British strongholds and declared his kingdom to be free from British dominance. However, later he was captured by the British forces and executed on 3 August 1857.
