Bihar's air connectivity is witnessing a new revolution. Previously, Purnia Airport was served only by small ATR aircraft, but now 186-seater Airbuses are also operating. This means that people in Seemanchal and Kosi regions can now fly directly to major cities like Delhi and Hyderabad. Indigo's regular service began at Purnia Airport on October 26th, while Star Air began operating flights to Kolkata and Ahmedabad on October 15th. Following the launch of Indigo's services, Purnia Airport will see five departures and five arrivals daily, significantly increasing travel convenience for local travelers.
Not only Purnia, but plans to expand air connectivity are also progressing rapidly in many other districts of Bihar. Approval has been granted for the construction of greenfield airports in Munger, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Saharsa, as well as Birpur and Balmikinagar. These airports will not only enhance transportation facilities but will also play a crucial role in security planning and emergency preparedness. Birpur is located in Supaul district and Balmikinagar in West Champaran district, and the construction of airports in these areas will further strengthen Bihar's aerial map. Additionally, Gaya Airport is rapidly expanding.
There are plans to install a CAT-I light system at Gaya Airport to enhance its capacity to handle international flights. Currently, Gaya Airport offers night landing facilities, but the introduction of this system will further enhance its operational capacity. Approximately 18.2442 acres of land will be acquired under this project, for which the Bihar government has granted administrative approval for over ₹137 crore. The land has been identified, and the acquisition process will begin soon. This expansion plan is a significant step towards making Gaya Airport an international airport.
Darbhanga Airport is at the forefront of major airports in northern Bihar. The Chhath festival is witnessing a steady increase in passenger traffic. Over 3,100 passengers traveled through Darbhanga Airport in October, while 3,152 passengers were recorded on October 12th. Currently, an average of 18 to 20 flights are operating daily. Delhi and Mumbai account for the most flights, while Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Hyderabad are also experiencing significant increases. This data clearly demonstrates the rapidly growing demand for air travel in North Bihar.
In response to the increasing number of passengers, the airport administration has made special arrangements for safety and convenience. Security checks, baggage handling, and wheelchair facilities have been strengthened. Additional arrangements have also been made in the parking area and waiting area to ensure passengers experience no inconvenience. Thus, passengers are enjoying a safe and comfortable air travel experience.

Hotel, transportation, and food businesses around the airport are experiencing a new boom.
