Thoughts on dog parks? I’ll explain why I won’t take my personal dogs inside.

I still use them to my advantage for training. Crunch has been around dogs frequently since he was a young puppy so for him it’s nothing new, but to allow your dog the ability to watch and process that other dogs can run and bark without having to feel threatened is a great activity. Better yet, my dog choosing to play with me even with all that going on is extremely important.

Why won’t I take him in? Beyond the fact most dog parks are a cesspool, I don’t trust dogs I don’t know. It takes one bad moment for a dog to record a mental scar, and I don’t want to trust strange dogs to behave appropriately, and I trust strangers even less.

I do believe it’s extremely important that your dog learns how to play appropriately with other dogs, but group play can turn into a big problem. Even more important than is that Mentos and Coke do not mix, and you do want to find dogs that are appropriate for your dog, their age, and their energy level.
