Fiction, Faction and the Spaces in Between
Neha Dixit and Krishna Kumar in conversation with Swati Chopra
Two eminent writers, Krishna Kumar and Neha Dixit, present insights from and read excerpts of their recent books. Renowned educational reformist and former director of NCERT, Professor Kumar, talks about his recent book Thank You, Gandhi. A blend of fiction and non-fiction, memoir and social commentary, the book pays homage to the enduring legacy of Gandhi. At its epicentre lies the profound bond between K and Munna, whose lives are intertwined with India's tumultuous history. This metafictional novel is a profound tribute to the Mahatma and the values he represented. Neha Dixit's recent work of non-fiction, The Many Lives of Syeda X, draws attention to the unspoken realities of the Indian female worker. Dixit's meticulous journalism offers a vivid portrayal of the challenges faced by urban migrants, particularly women, highlighting their resilience and the systemic issues they navigate daily. Together, the two writers straddle the intersections of storytelling, memoir, and the role of narratives in shaping society in different, yet impactful ways.
