The Mamos at Aniwa Gathering

Sacred music of the Mamos of the Teyuna people - Wiwa, Kogi, Arhuaco and Kankuamo, of the Sierra Nevada, Colombia.

The Mamos are in charge of maintaining balance on the planet, through their sacred pagamentos (spiritual offerings) they replenish Mother Earth and all of her kingdoms with spiritual food and nourishment as well as spiritual currency to revert all the damage humans continue to create.

Their ceremonies, infused with ancient wisdom passed down through generations, serve as a beacon of hope amidst the modern world’s environmental challenges. Through their profound connection to nature, the Mamos guide humanity towards a path of harmony and reverence for the Earth’s delicate ecosystems and teach us about the incredible power of our thoughts and how we can use them to heal ourselves and for spiritual activism also.

Activities offered by the Mamos at Aniwa Gathering 2024:

Pagamentos for the Planet & the Planet Vital Signs - The Teyuna people measure the health of a natural environment by checking the Vital Signs of the environment. When in Nature, a particular environment is healthy when the 4 Vital Signs of the Earth, in that environment, are balanced and healthy. They are the indicators in nature. They are the biological indicators of a healthy environment.

The Mamos & Zaga will do Pagamentos or ceremonies in Nature to nourish and honor these spirits. We acknowledge the work these vital elements and spirits do by doing Pagamentos for them.

Musical Pagamento - The Teyuna people have the music and songs of our Ancestors that they play and sing. The music they play is intentional and the songs they sing have a purpose. They will be playing their ancestral music and will explain why they sing and to whom they are singing. Playing music is not only an important activity in their daily life, but is essential for the work they do, which is to sustain and care for the planet.
