Dark Sounds Concert Series: August 5, 2010

Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist and lyricist Andrew Bird is known for his experimental forays into pop music that incorporate elements of gypsy jazz, classical, folk, and country blues traditions. For Dark Sounds, Bird collaborated with sculptor, inventor, and luthier Ian Schneller to present Sonic Arboretum, a site-specific performance involving violin, looped passages, and a landscape of speaker horns.

Dark Sounds was a three-part live concert series taking its thematic cue from Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance, which was on view March 26-September 6, 2010, aimed to evoke the exhibition's elements of melancholy, ghostliness, the uncanny, and our collective and individual obsession with accessing the past.
