One of the most astonishing truths of the Incarnation is this: God Almighty chose to live in obedience to human beings. In this reflection, Father Chris invites us to pause before the mystery of the Holy Family and to contemplate what it reveals about authority, humility, and love. Jesus—true God and true man—submitted Himself to Mary and Joseph, embracing family life not as a formality, but as a path of salvation.
Saint Joseph, though silent in Scripture, speaks powerfully through his actions. As head of the Holy Family, he never used his authority for self-preservation or advantage. He never demanded miracles, never asked Jesus to escape poverty, suffering, or danger. Instead, Joseph accepted the will of God with trust, restraint, and courage. His fatherhood was not rooted in control, but in obedience.
In this way, Joseph becomes an icon of God the Father. He protected, guided, and provided—without drawing attention to himself. His strength was hidden, his leadership quiet, his faith unwavering. Through Joseph, Christ learned human obedience, work, and love within the family. As Scripture reminds us, Jesus “went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them” (Lk 2:51).
Father Chris reminds us that this mystery elevates family life itself. If God chose obedience within a human family, then family is not secondary to holiness—it is one of its primary schools. In a world that often confuses authority with power, Saint Joseph teaches us that true authority is expressed through self-gift.
His example remains urgently needed today, especially as the family and the Church face constant attack. Saint Joseph shows us that God entrusts His greatest treasures not to the loud or the forceful, but to the faithful.
