Jon DaCosta - The Pressure of Failing You

The end of a year always comes with mixed emotions for a lot of folks. It can be filled with optimism about the new year ahead but also a lot of pressure to get it right this time and not let yourself or the ones you love down. I wrote this song when a friend of mine asked me if I’d play a holiday show last month and play at least one original “holiday” song in my set. I realized I didn’t have a holiday song and when I sat down to write one this song just sort of came out. I liked the way the two verses are juxtaposed with the first one being rather dismal and bleak, while the second verse is (mildly) optimistic. Everyone loves a feel good holiday song but I think we all can relate to the feeling of pressure this time of year too. Here’s to the year ahead!
