One of my favourite quotes is by Jack London and can be found in his novel The Call of the Wild. It translates a feeling, my favourite feeling which I could not explain before, into words. It is that feeling I get every time I meet my best friends back, the highest stage of happiness. I used to spend every day with them but getting used to the growing distance through the years helped me understand how much they mean to me, how happy they have made me and still do today. This feeling is reached as we feel alive again, as we finally realize the reason why we have not given up on the journey. In such a busy world, we tend to forget about living and just let our bodies be passively blown away by the routine. This feeling thus is essential for our minds and our hearts, the two most important elements of ourselves.
So, this very top of the happiness-mountain can be reached but cannot be challenged – nothing can be found above it. We often get to that summit but only realize we have been there once we are going back down the mountain. Because happiness is not an everlasting feeling; we can be happy human beings, however genuine happiness is not part of our character but simply a state of mind. Such state of mind was made to be reached from time to time, for a moment only, for an instant we will never forget. In the end, we hold on to what we cannot have forever, and this might be the reason why we never forget the best moments of our lives.
The quote is: “There is an ecstasy that marks the summit of life, and beyond which life cannot rise. And such is the paradox of living, this ecstasy comes when one is most alive, and it comes as a complete forgetfulness that one is alive.”
On that day, I finally reunited with four of my best friends. I grew up with them and getting back to my habits in the countryside was the ultimate piece I was missing these days. Living in the city when you don’t like the city is not healthy. Having a place to call home, people to call home, an environment to be yourself in, is on the other hand the healthiest lifestyle.
I was injured but I could heal before this day. I am forever grateful, both for my health and for the best friends in the world.

The SlowUp is an event occurring every first Sunday of June, during which the main road “route des vins” (meaning “wine road”) is closed to cars, buses, trucks, etc. Cycles however are freely welcomed and 3 routes of different lengths going through many Alsacian villages are suggested, with numbers of activities, food, drinks and music to spice up our day on the way. We thus celebrate the Alsacian wine in a very eco-friendly way. There is even a dress-code, which is to wear a white top in honour to the famous and beloved white wine (not everyone respects that dress-code but still, it really is fun).
