With the domestic stock market entering the ‘Sacheonpi’ era (KOSPI 4000) and renewing all-time highs, securities firms are achieving record-breaking earnings.
NH Investment & Securities reported its largest ever quarterly performance on October 30th, with 391.3 billion KRW in operating profit and 283.1 billion KRW in net income for Q3.
These results represent increases of 107.9% and 83.8% year-over-year, respectively, and were driven by exploding commission income. Kiwoom Securities' operating profit jumped 52.6%, and Hana Securities surged by a huge 86.9%. The combined transaction volume of the Korea Exchange and Nextrade exceeded 51 trillion KRW, fueling this earnings surprise.

The Korea Exchange (KRX) held an expert meeting on October 30th, hosted by Chairman Jung Eun-bo, on strategies to achieve KOSPI 5000.
Research center heads agreed that adjusting the tax system, specifically lowering the maximum rate for separate taxation on dividend income, is the crucial next step.
Lee Jong-hyung, Head of Kiwoom Securities Research Center, predicts that corporate operating profit will grow about 30% next year, led by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, enabling the KOSPI to comfortably reach the 4500 level.
However, Kim Jin-wook, Chief Economist at Citibank Korea, cautioned that if market-friendly legislation concerning dividend tax and treasury stock disposal is not processed well by the National Assembly, foreign capital could flee, making 5000 difficult.

FSC Chairman Lee Won-geun met with 17 CEOs from the securities and asset management industries on October 30th and stressed the urgent need for 'adventurous capital'.
He promised to swiftly designate Comprehensive Financial Investment Business Operators (Jongtusa) in the order their reviews are completed to ensure large Investment Banks (IBs) can reliably supply this capital.
To encourage IBs to move beyond real estate project financing (PF), the FSC will strengthen the real estate business Net Capital Ratio (NCR) regulations.
Furthermore, he urged the Private Equity Fund (PEF) industry to embrace a 'responsible investment culture' and commit to long-term corporate growth, not just short-term profit pursuit.

[Seoul Economic Daily Stock Market ④] FSS Governor Lee Chan-jin to sell remaining Gangnam apartment
FSS Governor Lee Chan-jin has indicated his intention to sell the last apartment he owns in Woomeon-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul.
This decision follows controversy over his multi-homeownership during the parliamentary audit, prompting him to sell one identical 130㎡ apartment (purchased in 2002) on October 29th.
By selling the remaining unit, Governor Lee will become a non-homeowner, reinforcing the government's focus on securing momentum for the 'money move' policy from real estate to the stock market.
Earlier, Governor Lee invested the 200 million KRW down payment from the first apartment sale into stock products tracking the KOSPI 200 and KOSDAQ 150 indices.
