There was a small break through in U-S Chinese negotiations on Monday, as American diplomats were granted access without Chinese intermediaries to all 24 U-S Navy surveillance plane crew members detained in China since April 1.

Reports say the access on Monday was the first without several hours of preliminary ground-rule setting with the Chinese authorities.

The U-S crew members, 21 men and three women, have been held on the island since making an emergency landing after a midair collision with a Chinese fighter jet.

The Chinese have so far tightly controlled access to the crew and demanded that the U-S apologise for the incident.

00:10 It followed the pattern that only two diplomats were allowed to see the crew.. Sealock was accompanied by consular official Ted Gong.

00:18 All four meetings have taken place at the Southern Airforce Number One Guest House - a location which the Chinese have not disclosed.

01:08 The crew members have been receiving e-mail from home and U-S embassy workers have been sent out to buy supplies for the crew, including medicines for stomach upsets and chocolate.

01:19 Ambassador to China Joseph Prueher, the chief U-S negotiator, returned to the U-S embassy on Monday after continued negotiations with the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

01:29 Potential hostilities are growing as the White House has declined to apologize for the incident, saying it believes the collision was an accident.
