Welcome to TapToTalk. TapToTalk is a picture communication system that is geared towards children with disabilities. It is a way to facilitate communication and foster relationships. The free version of TapToTalk, which I will show in this tutorial, can be very beneficial for students when they are using requests. Because the free version is not able to be customized, there is not a way for the student to comment or question, which is why I would recommend buying the full version.
On the home page of TapToTalk, there is a guide bar at the bottom. At any point you can click the home button on the far left and it will put you on the home page of the album you have selected. The albums button on the far right allows you to choose the album you will be working with. If the child needs to make a choice about something, you can select the choices tab and they can say yes or no. If the child is finished making a choice you may click on the albums button again to move them to a different album.
The help me album serves to deliver the students information such as the name and phone number of the child.,
Then numbers album will help when identifying numbers 1-10 or doing addition or subtraction numbers when the outcome is between 1 and 10.
The Starter --F, Starter-M, and the Spanish albums all have the same content. However, the Starter F is a female voice, the starter m is a male voice and the Spanish album is a female speaking Spanish.
For this introduction, I will be selecting the Starter F. There are 6 categories in the starter F. To start with I will select Go
On the go screen there are 7 different places the student can elect to go. For example if it is recess the student can select playground. The female voice will then speak the child's request. To go back to the main page I will select the back arrow at the bottom of the screen.
Next I can choose play. There are 6 differnet choices the child can make on this page in request of a play item. (Blocks, and MP3 player)
Drink is my next selection. I want a drink is stated when I first selected the category, however, the 5 selections within the category help me to make a specific choice.
The picture of the toilet is a static picture. There are no other categories presented when you click on it, it simply says........
The section labeled hungry, is a little different than the previous screens. For hungry, there are 5 different categories. When one of those categories has been selected, it will show a new set of selections, so that the student can make a specific choice.
The emotion category is similar to that of hungry, I can select hurt and it will give me 4 different options of how I could have been hurt. For Sad, there are different choices as well such as she said no, she went away, or he is too loud. Im angry and I'm frustrated have the same options as well however, they have the option of requesting a break by saying...Iwant to relax.
After exploring all of these options I am going to take you back to the home screen. At the bottom of the screen there are two options that we have not yet covered. The first is the text bubble and the second is the speaker. For each of these, this is the option of either turning the text and speaker on or off.
Hopefully, you can find yourself confident to use this application and help your students become successful in their communication abilities.
