Jethro was born in a dairy and taken from his mom at just a day old. He was rescued and raised by a woman who loved him, but for seven years, he was the only cow. When his caregiver tragically passed away, Jethro’s owner could no longer care for him, so she reached out to us to bring Jethro to The Gentle Barn California.
After our cow John Lewis moved to our Sun Chlorella Healing Center, we kept his toys in the barnyard for comfort, and Jethro went right to them when he arrived!

Jethro never got to experience a childhood, running around open pastures with a loving family by his side. When he came to us, it was clear that the whole world was new to him. With the help of his new herd, Lewis’ fluffy toys, bedtime cookies, love, and patience, Jethro is starting to feel at home 💚 #worldkindnessday

The Gentle Barn is a non profit animal sanctuary with locations in Los Angeles, CA and Nashville, TN. We rescue neglected and traumatized animals from all circumstances, we rehabilitate them, and when they're ready we partner with them to heal people with the same stories of trauma. We rescue cows, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, emus, llamas, donkeys, and more.
