Learning to Sail Around the World With a Dog on a Classic Boat

Описание к видео Learning to Sail Around the World With a Dog on a Classic Boat

Learning to sail around the world with a dog was the idea. All we needed was the boat. May I present to you the 1958 Bounty sloop Vashti. A racing cruiser, she was designed by Phillip Rhodes and built by Fred Coleman and the Aeromarine Plastics Company in San Rafael, California. At over 40’ long, the Bounty II’s were the largest fiberglass boats built at the time. Vashti was the first Bounty 2 to join the Detroit racing fleet.

In September 1958, she was delivered to John Detweiler, then commodore of the Grosse Pointe Club east of Detroit, and has spent her 60 years virtually conquering the great lakes. She’s won countless prestigious races, including winning her class of the Port Huron to Mackinac race up and across lake Huron in 1959, again in 1965, and again in 1993.

Being from the Bay Area, she was designed for much more. Tami and I hope to be the first of her stewards to introduce Vashti to the oceans was meant to sail on. The only problem is we don’t know how to sail. Yet.
