Here in this video, I go a bit more in depth to the modes in C major, but basing it on a backing track that I’ve made up, using all the chords that are in the key of C major. The chords are listed below with the mode for each and the chord that it works over. So called “problem” notes or “clash” notes are noted here as well:

Chord I - C major 7 - Ionian - problem notes C and F

Chord ii - Dm7 - Dorian - problem note F

Chord iii - Em7 - Phrygian - problem notes C and F

Chord IV - F major 7 - Lydian - problem note F

Chord V - G7 - Mixolydian - problem note C

Chord vi - Am7 - Aeolian - problem note F

Chord vii - Bm7b5 - Locrian - no problems!

The scale is C major, and based on the upper octave on guitar, as shown on the TAB in the video of the backing track, which you can practise with, here:
