Chapter 5: Avoiding the Thing

After the workshop launch fails, I don’t fully register how much it affects me. I decide not to record it and tell myself I’ll come back to it once everything feels more ready. I buy studio lights, plan to set them up and record, and then keep putting it off—today, tomorrow, soon—without questioning why.

Work on the workshop slows and becomes incremental: lighting, slides, small pieces completed over weeks rather than days. At the same time, I throw myself into Vlogmas, moving forward at full speed with long-form and short-form content. Tutoring projects continue more quietly in the background. I process lingering frustrations, including being ghosted by two school administrators, without fully situating them yet.

This chapter captures motion without clarity—progress in some directions, avoidance in others—marking a shift in direction while understanding for the moment is still forming.

The vlog starts with a few excuses about why I didn’t record—small ways of lying to myself—before I trudge ahead anyway. Sunday is mostly chatty: I talk about my short story series, DV, and my motives and inspirations for the Substack series. Monday is a planned weekly reset: I clear my head, organize my space, and go see a movie at the theatre with a friend.

This chapter captures motion without clarity—moving forward, avoiding, and finding small resets along the way, without fully accepting or processing my emotions.
