This tunnel is actually a former railway tunnel that was built in the early 1900s to transport shale from the Wolgan Valley to the nearby town of Newnes. However, due to a landslide in 1979, the tunnel was abandoned and left to nature. And what happened next was truly magical. Over time, thousands of tiny creatures called glow worms made their home in the tunnel, creating a breathtaking display of blue-green bioluminescence.

Now, before I show you the tunnel, let me take you on a journey to get there. The Glow Worm Tunnel is located in the Wollemi National Park, which is about two and a half hours' drive from Sydney. The park is part of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, which means it's not only beautiful but also significant in terms of conservation and cultural history.
