Lee Ritenour's iconic 1958 Fender Stratocaster was a mainstay guitar for much of his legendary career that was tragically lost in the Malibu fires of 2018. This historic instrument influenced the sound of countless sessions and hit recordings, but has yet to be considered for a re-creation by Fender despite their diverse roster of signature artists. So…here’s my pitch to Fender to a one-to-one replica of Captain Fingers’ 1958 Strat. Not only will I make the case for why the guitar is deserving of signature model, but I'll build one using a 1950's Fender Custom Shop as the donor guitar and perform all of the modifications that Lee did over the years. Special thanks to Ian Anderson, Benny Rodriguez, and Gary Brawer for assisting in the re-creation of this lost piece of history.
