00:00 Hello my friends.
00:05 In this modelling project I am building the modelling kit of the USS Minneapolis CA-36, in scale 1:700 from Trumpeter. My first ship ever.
00:14 USS Minneapolis (CL/CA-36) was a New Orleans-class cruiser built for the United States Navy before the outbreak of World War II, the second ship named for Minneapolis, Minnesota. She served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The New Orleans-class cruisers were the last U.S. cruisers built to the specifications and standards of the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922. Such ships, with a limit of 10,000 tons standard displacement and 8-inch caliber main guns may be referred to as "treaty cruisers." Originally classified a light cruiser, because of her thin armor, she was reclassified, soon after being laid down, a heavy cruiser, because of her 8-inch guns. The term "heavy cruiser" was not defined until the London Naval Treaty in 1930.
00:57 Inside the box there are at least 200 pieces in multiple sprue.
01:01 In separate pieces there are the ship's upper and lower parts as well as the base.
01:12 The Miniature decals, colors guide and the manual (14 steps).
01:25 Will be cutting the ship's keel sprue and the back/forth deck ones.
01:51 Smoothing out the parts with the cutter and sandpaper. When needed, using the cutter carefully in the opposite direction to avoid cutting or damaging the parts.
02:08 Every piece that I will be placing, gluing, etc, goes without saying that I already had smoothed out.
02:20 Gluing time!
02:41 Placing the decks.
03:14 Cleaned, smoothed and drilled few holes where was needed in the turret parts.
03:19 As you can see, they are very, very, small parts so excuse me for having difficult time with them 😊
03:30 Assembling the turret.
03:44 Even these small pieces have details such as stairs!
04:23 Gluing additional items on the deck.
04:50 More deck items such as cannons, turrets, lifeboats, funnels, cranes, etc. that I had already prepared.
07:28 Attaching the propellers.
08:30 Everything is assembled except couple cannons that I will place in the end.
08:35 Gray primer the ship.
09:01 Gray primer the cannons and aircrafts.
09:22 Hull red the bottom part of the ship.
09:50 When its dry, masking tape and dark Mediterranean blue, dark sea gray and flat green the upper part of the ship. I prefer my own mix instead of the normal navy blue.
11:06 Again, after its dry, some more masking tape and flat black the water line.
11:41 When things have been dried, I am carefully removing the masking tape.
12:11 Some color passed through here and I will have to fix it later on.
12:27 Got the masking tape away and I will paint the propellers gold as well as fix the color that passed through here as well.
12:36 Gold painting the propellers.
12:57 Mig's decal set before placing the decals and Mig's decal fix afterwards. The 1st prepares the surface and the 2nd takes care of any curves, bumps, etc.
13:14 Pressing with a cotton swab to take away the excess air or liquids below the decal without damaging it.
14:05 Brown painting the 4 lifeboats and light blue painting the bridge windows.
14:33 Metal gun painting the very small turrets.
15:21 Black washing.
16:33 Burned amber with crimson red, oil painting rust details on the anchor and across the hull.
17:27 White oil painting.
18:39 These wire ropes I added off-camera because they were very difficult to do it otherwise.
18:55 A very good model kit, especially for my first ship ever. I liked it.
