UK Navy Tests New £1.3 Billion Advanced Submarine

The Royal Navy’s newest Astute-class submarine HMS Anson has completed what a submarine should do – submerge – for the first time.

The fifth Astute-class vessel – valued at £1.3 billion in power and state-of-the-art underwater naval technology – has successfully made its first dive safely at dock at Barrow. The Royal Navy's next attack submarine is one step closer to entering service after completing a major milestone.

The Astute-class submarines are the largest, most advanced and most powerful attack submarines ever operated by the Royal Navy, combining world-leading sensors, design and weaponry in one multipurpose vessel.
