Rudraprayag is the fourth Prayag in Panch Prayag of Uttarakhand. In Rudraprayag there is a confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. The Mandakini River originates from the Chaurabari Glacier and then passes through Kedarnath and reaches Rudraprayag via Sonprayag. And on the other side, the Alaknanda river leaves near Badrinath and reaches Rudraprayag via Vishnuprayag, Nandprayag and Karnaprayag.

In 2013, due to the breaking of a part of the Chorabari glacier, there was a huge flood. Many villages were washed away, many pilgrims went missing, thousands of people lost their lives. This disaster was the biggest disaster in Uttarakhand which is known as Kedarnath disaster.

Rudraprayag is one of the famous districts of Uttarakhand, it plays a special role in Char Dham. From here the routes to Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham diverge.

According to historical facts, Rudraprayag was ruled by Naga dynasty first and later by Parmar dynasty. In 1804 this area was under the control of Gurkhas and in 1815 it was under British control. Then there was a treaty between the British and Raja Sudarshan Shah and some part of Garhwal was given to Sudarshan Shah. Which was known as Tehri Princely. Most of Rudraprayag was under Tehri Garhwal. Later in 1997, Rudraprayag became a separate district.

Rudranath Temple is a famous temple of Rudraprayag and a few steps down from it, the beautiful Sangam can be seen.

So this was the fourth Prayag, hope you like it. See you soon in Devprayag.
