1951 New Castle Pennsville Ferry

Описание к видео 1951 New Castle Pennsville Ferry

This video shows the operations of two ferry service companies, the Delaware-New Jersey Ferry Company and the Virginia Ferry Corporation. Most of the footage, taken on August 15, 1951, is of the New Castle-Pennsville Ferry. Before the Delaware Memorial Bridge opened on August 16, 1951, the ferry service between Pennsville, New Jersey and New Castle, Delaware was the "Shortest Route South & West." The Kiptopeke Beach - Little Creek Ferry Service, which connected Virginia Beach, Virginal with Cape Charles, Virginia, is also shown.

The film includes vintage cars, work trucks and trailers, vehicles boarding the ferry and paying the fare, passengers milling about the boat, ferry boats docking and launching, and a few vintage license plates. The S.S. Florida, Pittsburgh, and New York are a few of the featured ferry boats.
