[MSX] Mappy (MSX2) - Rounds 1-25 - Score: 299060 - Tool Assisted Longplay

Описание к видео [MSX] Mappy (MSX2) - Rounds 1-25 - Score: 299060 - Tool Assisted Longplay

Tiny Yarou wrote a patcher for the original MSX version of Mappy, enhancing the game with MSX2-worthy graphics.

It this video I play through rounds 1 till 25, and try to rake in as many points as possible, with several narrow escapes.

The game itself is a jewel from my childhood, though we used to have the MSX tape version of Namco LTD's "Mappy", published by Bug-Byte Software and the Argus Press Software Group. More information about the game, and this release in particular, can be found on Generation MSX(¹)
Since I played this mostly on our Philips NMS 8250 MSX2 homecomputer (²), I set the openMSX emulator (³) to emulate this machine, even though the game officially only has an MSX1 version.

This video is related to    • [MSX] Mappy (MSX2) - Rounds 1-25 - Sc...   and    • [MSX] Mappy by Namco LTD & Bug-Byte S...   where I show how the bells of round 5 and 6 are missing as soon as you reset your MSX system, while the rest of the game stays in memory, and    • [MSX] Mappy by Namco LTD & Bug-Byte S...   which shows the boot and tape loading sequence.
There's also a short, combined, comparison video with text annotations available at    • [MSX] Mappy - Bells, before and after...

If you feel like playing the unofficial version of Mappy with enhanced graphics for the MSX2, which I played here, visit http://www.tiny-yarou.com/kaizoumsx_m... or read more about it on http://www.msx.org/forum/msx-talk/sof... or watch the gameplay footage by Tiny Yarou on    • マッピー MAPPY for MSX2
You should also be able to pick up pre-patched ROMs if you are 'passionate' about finding them.

This gameplay run makes use of the 'reverse' functionality of the openMSX emulator, which allows me to reverse mistakes. It was recorded using the official stable release of version 0.10.1 of openMSX for Mac OS X.
Daily development builds for Windows and Dingux (and soon hopefully Mac OS X and Android again) are available at http://openmsx.fixato.net
