The 2012 season saw perhaps the last true underdog rise to the top. The season already was a classic with a record 16 winners in one year. With winners like Cale Gale, John King, Justin Lofton, and Joey Coulter pulling off wins, it seemed like everyone had a chance every race. There were only a few multi-race winners, such as former F1 driver Nelson Piquet Jr. and championship contender Timothy Peters. However, it was Turner Motorsports and James Buescher that would make the winning combo, winning 4 races en route to the title.
