You can explore Iceland's mossy lava fields, along the southern coast. They're right off the highway, and easy to spot. The thick moss coats the hardened lava, which poured out of a volcano in the late 1700s.

Legend has it: these are the fields where Iceland's gnomes live.
There are paths through the moss (which is several inches thick on top of the rocks) so you won't disturb the natural environment while walking through.

Iceland is full of lava fields, but the Eldraun Lava Field is the most visually spectacular, especially from the drone above.
