1. The bowling alley scenes were filmed at the former Holly Star Lanes near Santa Monica and the 101 Freeway exit ramp. The bowling alley has since been torn down and a new elementary school stands in its place. 2. During the dinner with the speech, it was hard for the cameramen to fulfill the Dogme-rule about the cameras being handheld. The solution was to let some of the guests at the table hold the cameras themselves. 3. The zipper scene is based on an actual incident when the directors parents had to help a young man who caught himself in his zipper at one of their sisters' parties. 4. This film has been analyzed as a thesis on Christianity, metaphilosophy, simulated reality, existentialism and the rise of reality television. 5. Norton was said to have re-edited the film to lengthen his screen time. The Director then attempted to get his name removed but violated a Directors' Guild of America rule that states that directors that use pseudonyms (such as "Alan Smithee") must not talk about why they had their name removed - which Tony Kaye had done in ads in Variety.
