Eruption from submarine volcano creates new island in the South Pacific

Описание к видео Eruption from submarine volcano creates new island in the South Pacific

The volcanic island formed in January 2015 in between two older islands known as Hunga Tonga and Hunga Ha'apai. It's thought the new island might give NASA scientists clues about how volcanic landscapes interacted with water on ancient Mars. The island, hasn't been officially named, but is known as Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai or HTHH. It is covered in black gravel and light-colored clay mud rather than sand. Vegetation is springing up and a barn owl lives there.Dan Slayback (bottom right) of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, visited the island in October 2018.
