Ocean County - Jackson Township - Shotgun Wildfire

Just after 12:45 PM Jackson PD, FD, and NJFFS were alerted to a possible large brush fire within the shotgun range of a shooting range in Jackson Township of South Stump Tavern RD. When crews from NJFFS arrived on the scene with 4 engines and a dozer they were faced with fire conditions deep in the wood and spreading across the range due to the windy and dry conditions. Off the bat due to the structures being close to the fire local fire company was dispatched to cover the structure protection. Meanwhile, the NJFFS back burned to control the head of the fire. Firing operations were happening along the main road while crews deeper inside working on containment lines and backfiring. Due to the growing size of the fire Ocean County sent the MAC Unit with the Ocean County Fire Marshals along with the Mobile Command Unit from the Sheriff's Department. The NJFFS IC trailer also responded. As operations came together the head. The fire peaked out at the road for just a second and crews kept firing in to contain the burn material infant of the fire. More structure protection was needed so OCS activated Zone 1 & 2 to respond to the scene with tankers and engines from multiple fire departments across the county. The cause of the fire is unknown and there will be a press conference today at 10 AM with further details. The fire is approximately 300 acres and the main fire was done last night around 11 PM. Crews and smoke will remain in the area for days to come. They evacuated 6 people yesterday due to the high fire danger and smoke.
