Golgotha, also known as the Place of the Skull, is a hill just outside the ancient walls of Jerusalem where public executions were carried out under Roman rule. Its name, rooted in Aramaic, refers to the skull-like shape of the hill, and it became infamous as the site where countless rebels, criminals, and dissidents met their end. Among them was a figure whose death would echo across history—marking Golgotha not only as a Roman place of judgment, but as a symbol of sacrifice, upheaval, and empire in decline. Though its stones are worn, the hill remains one of the most contested and historically charged sites in the ancient world.
