The Skriker, or Shrieker, wanders over the Pennine Hills and around Lancashire, letting out horrific shrieks, hence its name.
These shrieks are said to be omens of death, and strike fear in travellers hearts.
As always, they forewarn of a death, either in the family of the witness or one of that person’s friends.
The more clearly the Skriker is visible, the sooner the death will occur.
This tale tells of a mans unfortunate meeting with the creature on his journey home from the pub.
