The main function of the throttle position sensor is to monitor the position of the throttle valve and sends this information to the engine control unit. Based on the position of the throttle, the ECU makes decisions about fuel injection, ignition timing, and other critical engine parameters.
When the throttle position sensor (TPS) goes bad, it produces different symptoms such as check engine light illumination, erratic idling, stalling at idle, lack of power, surging during acceleration, poor fuel economy, limp mode, or check engine light.
