Adelaide Quail, a young woman who died of cholera in 1913, finds herself trapped in Highgate Cemetery as a ghost. Over the years, she witnesses the seasons come and go, observing the world around her as it changes. She spends her time observing the cemetery, occasionally accompanied by schoolchildren on tour. However, her existence is limited, and she remains unseen and untouched by the living. Despite the passage of time, Adelaide is still waiting for Alice Alderidge, the object of her affection in life, to join her in death.
