New information about how the hazardous Seattle fault zone may have formed could help scientists improve hazard modeling for this densely populated region.

More than 4 million people live in the Puget Sound region, and their safety is threatened by a network of shallow faults that slice through the lowlands. A new study from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources shed light on what likely happened more than 50 million years ago.

The lead author of the study told KOMO News they started studying earthquakes in California back in 1906 after a major quake there from the San Andreas Fault. She said there’s still plenty to learn here since scientists only started studying earthquakes in earnest in Washington in the 1990s.

The new regulations added a fee to support drivers who make food deliveries as supplemental income or for full-time work. But, many customers share they can’t afford the increase, and drivers want the city to do something about it.

The added cost on the city's new App-Based Worker Minimum Payment Ordinance appears to be falling on customers, and they're noticing.
