S1 – Ep 240 – Carolusberg – A Copper Mining Community Near Springbok!

We were told that we must visit the copper mining community of Carolusberg, so we made a plan to stop off at the small town to see it for ourselves. We could not believe it when we were told by a local that Simon van der Stel's old copper mine was just outside of town. We did some research and learnt that his party sank a mine shaft here in 1685. We found out later that he was actually looking for gold, but found copper instead. I read somewhere that Carolusberg is actually a suburb of the town of Springbok. We took a drive through the streets of Carolusberg and to be honest, I was super impressed to see how clean and neat the yards, streets and houses were.
