The Presiding Deity is Sri Amirthakadeshwarar who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and known to be as a Destroyer of Death. His Consort is Goddess Abhirami an incarnation of Goddess Parvathi. The recently renovated Temple dates back to the 7th Century and was revered in Thevaram. It is a Paadal Petra Sthalam in a whopping 10 acres land. The Temple has 2 Rajagopurams with the taller one having 11 tiers. The Temple has 6 daily rituals and 12 annual festivals. Though the Presiding Deity in the Sanctum Sanctorum is solitary to look at, it would reveal another reflection of the same Lingam at times. The 50th, 60th, 70th, 80th Birthday celebrations of the Devotees are performed here with gay and pomp. Abirami Battar, an ardent Devotee of Goddess Abhirami is revered here and has a separate Sub Shrine for Himself. The Temple has recently undergone Kumbabishekam and hence the stone walls are all immaculately clean with gorgeous paintings giving a festive look at any time.
