Busan is on the final shortlist of four candidate cities that are vying to host the 2030 World Expo, with the Korean government as well as Busan municipal officials and citizens all working together to bring the expo to their city. The 2030 World Expo is expected to yield huge economic windfalls compared to the smaller-scale, specialized expos previously hosted by Korea in Daejeon and Yeosu. Busan citizens recently collected nearly 1.4 million signature in support of the expo, ahead of a due diligence visit to the city by a BIE inspection team on April 7, one of the final steps before the announcement of the host later in November. The Globalists will be focusing on Korea’s MICE industry in the month of April, and the first part in the series will invite Enna Park, a former diplomat and the chair of the citizens committee for the 2030 expo, to talk about Busan’s chances of hosting the event and the unique qualities that the city offers.
