In this episode on High Country Gold and Silver, I’m featuring a massive, high-grade silver ore slab from the Bulldog Mountain Mine in Colorado’s legendary Creede District. This is silver with acanthite and baryte—a classic epithermal vein association—cut as a large plate so you can actually see the zoning, banding, and multi-stage vein growth that made Creede famous.

The specimen is from the Bulldog Mountain Mine, Creede District, Mineral County, Colorado, USA, from the 67 stope between the 9360–9500 levels. The slab measures 24 × 17.5 × 1 cm and weighs 1382 g. It’s estimated to contain at least 30 oz of silver, and in this video I walk you through what to look for on the cut faces: barite-rich gangue, dark acanthite-rich ore zones, and the structural contacts where precious metal values commonly concentrate.
