Planetarium built with gears (or an Orrery built with gears)

This video shows how one can construct a planetarium of the solar system based on gears. This is also called an orrery.


The planetarium 3d model was created with Blender 2.81.

The gear 3d models were created with OpenSCAD 2019.05
and the Gears Library for OpenSCAD

The gear ratios were calculated with the
Compound Gear Train Calculator where this website is no longer available. But I have put a gear train calculator here:

Just download the gear train calculator from the dropbox, unzip and open the html page. Then enter the wished period and let the progam calculate the according gear ratios.

The orbit periods were taken from NASA:

The video was composed with VSDC Video Editor 6.4.
