As more tourists choose to spend the Chinese New Year in Shanghai, the trendy University Road neighborhood in Yangpu District has launched its first Spring-Festival-only activity in a decade to celebrate the Year of the Horse.

The event integrates festive experiences such as a New Year fair and themed parades into a bustling, ancient-style atmosphere.

On the fifth day of the first month of the Chinese calendar, a traditional day to welcome good fortune, a dragon and lion dance parade, led by the God of Wealth himself, marched along the 700-meter-long street.

Wherever the procession passed, crowds gathered to touch gold ingots and receive "gold coins" for good luck.

On the temporary pedestrian street, over 50 unique stalls come together to form a Spring Festival ancient-style market.

From aromatic plaques and Chinese national trend ink paintings to Suzhou Song-style brocade, intangible cultural heritage treasures are gathered there, many of which are Year of the Horse limited editions.

Visitors can take fortune tokens of the fair to find staff members in historical costumes and take part in folkloric activities with chances to win more tokens, which can be used to exchange for various rewards such as coupons.
