"My son, Firefighter Timothy Matthew Welty, was lost in the line of duty at the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. He was killed while trying to save the lives of those trapped in the burning towers, regardless of race, color, religion, political affiliation or immigration status", says Adele Welty. "So I'm now fighting for a better understanding between Muslims and Christians."

Adele, a Catholic, has a close friendship with the Muslim activist Talat Hamdani. Both these women from very different backgrounds are united by a tragedy. Talat also lost her child in the Twin Tower attacks. Salman, her son, witnessed the smoke coming from the Twin Towers and hurried to the scene to aid victims, using his police and EMT identification to get a ride through the restricted traffic. He died in the World Trade Center. His remains were found in the rubble of the North Tower but weren't officially identified until months later, in March 2002.

Instead of sympathy for her loss, Talat was mainly met by suspicion from her fellow countrymen. Again and again the Pakistani-born American had to defend her faith. Relatives of the many Muslims victims of the September the 11th attacks often met with similar indifference and were not uncommonly accused of terrorist involvement themselves.

Both women have campaigned rigorously for the public acknowledgement of their son's heroism and adequate forms of permanent forms of memorial. Now, after 10 years their wounds are finally starting to heal.

The film follows them in a journey of remembrance and shows how grief can be turned into strength, forging bonds of friendship and motivating positive change.
