We've never heard of Zebulon Vance, and while we did enjoy the historic buildings and some of the info here....Zebulon was a politician!!!
A slave owning, democrat Governor and Senator, who we were not impressed with. With that said, we also think it important to have access to history like this, the good the bad and the ugly. Future generations need to know how ugly politicians can be. We recommend checking out this Historic Site, as it is put together well...just know Zeb wasn't the best guy around.
They need to know what the political parties stood for. Zebulon was a bit of fence rider, for the Union, yet for slave ownership, fought for the Confederate Army, yet possibly stole supplies from the Army.
Like most politicians, it seemed Zebulon did whatever would get him ahead and not what was best for the people.
