Asana Create Due Date Rules

Today I’m going to show you how to automatically move tasks to different sections based on due dates. This is very similar to my Create a Rule based on Due Date video, however, in this one, we will create multiple rules within a specific project. The view I will use in this example is the Board view. Let’s get started!

Open Asana and find your project. Click on the Board tab at the top if you don’t already see the Workflow view.

Click Add Section and name it Due in 1 Week.

Click Add Section and name it Due in 3 Days.

Click Add Section and name it Due in 1 Day.

Click Add Section and name it Due Today.

You may move the columns as you see fit. I suggest you order them in chronological order, 1 week, 3 days, 1 day, today.

Click the Customize Button at the top right

Click rules

Click add rule

Select Due date is approaching → Move task to a certain section

Click Due date is approaching and select 1 week before.

Click Move task to a certain section and select Due in 1 Week

Click Create rule.

We’ll do this for the remaining timeframes.

Click the Customize Button at the top right

Click rules

Click add rule

Select Due date is approaching → Move task to a certain section

Click Due date is approaching and select 3 days before.

Click Move task to a certain section and select Due in 3 Days

Click Create rule.

Click the Customize Button at the top right

Click rules

Click add rule

Select Due date is approaching → Move task to a certain section

Click Due date is approaching and select 1 day before.

Click Move task to a certain section and select Due in 1 Day

Click Create rule.

Click the Customize Button at the top right

Click rules

Click add rule

Select Due date is approaching → Move task to a certain section

Click Due date is approaching and select Today.

Click Move task to a certain section and select Due Today

Click Create rule.

Making these simple sections and rules enables you to visually see where your tasks are in relation to the due date. You can always add and modify the rules, based on your needs.
