Can the people who have long been treated as outsiders actually be the ones holding our communities together?

Inherited Pride explores how queer and LGBTQ people — often seen as countercultural — are the very ones who keep traditions alive, expand communities, and breathe new life into culture. Through three meals in three cities, we see how food becomes a vessel for family history, chosen family, and the power of belonging.

🌈 Segment 1 — Xochimilco, Mexico City
At sunrise on the chinampas, Anand picks fresh vegetables with Vladimir and Gustavo, a gay couple who cook Mole Verde based on their grandmothers’ recipes. We talk about how it’s often queer family members who carry traditions forward, remembering the details everyone else forgets — and keeping culture alive in the process.

🌈 Segment 2 — Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
In Vidigal, Anand cooks stewed oxtails with watercress with Patrick, a trans man drawing from his family’s Sunday supper tradition. Patrick shares how queer people broaden what community can be, welcoming people who don’t fit the mold and helping neighborhoods expand their sense of acceptance.

🌈 Segment 3 — Orlando, USA
At the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Anand meets Russell Allen, who hosts legendary dinner parties that connect artists and patrons. Over his signature gazpacho, we explore how queer people build culture through the arts — creating spaces of expression, safety, creativity, and connection.

Inherited Pride asks a simple but powerful question:
