Bijay Gupta is the greatest Bengali poet of the medieval Bengali literature Manasamangal poetry. His Manasamangal is one of the popular poems of Bengal. He wrote the complete story of Manasamangal. This Manasamangal poem is also popularly known as "Padma Purana".

According to the history of Manasa Mangal poetry and folklore, 527 years ago, during the reign of Sultan Hossain Shah in the English year 1494, the poet Bijoy Gupta was instructed by Goddess Manasa in a dream. He found a pot for worship from the large pond in his house, lifted it and established the temple of Goddess Manasa in his house in Gaila village of Agailjhara upazila of Barisal.
A very big worship is performed on the last day of the month of Shravan. Lakhs of devotees arrive at that time. Apart from this, many devotees arrive every day on Sundays and Thursdays.
