US Congressman urges Biden to sanction Israeli ministers Ben Gvir and Smotrich

US Congressman Sean Casten has urged President Biden to heed the calls of over 80 members of Congress to place financial sanctions on Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, for their role in settler violence in the West Bank.

Casten says the calls come “out of love for the Palestinian people and a deep abiding friendship with Israel”.

The sanctions would come under Executive Order 14115 which authorises the imposition of sanctions on anyone determined to be directly or indirectly engaged in actions that threaten the peace or stability of the West Bank.
