Delicious New England Baked Beans!

New England style baked beans are rich with brown sugar, molasses and pork. The old-fashioned way to make them uses salt pork, but newer versions use bacon. I use salt pork when I make them, but many people use bacon, so either way is fine.

The recipe: (From Better Homes and Garden Cookbook from 1963)
1 pound dry beans (Navy or Great Northern usually)
1/2 cup molasses (Maple syrup can be used instead)
1/4 cup brown sugar (packed firmly)
1 cup onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon of pepper, or to taste
1 teaspoon dry mustard (I have used yellow mustard with good results)
