This Sivalokanathar Temple is located in Thirupunkur 3 Kms West of Vaideeswaran Kovil and is a few meters away from the main road where a small Welcome Arch is erected. The Presiding Deity is Sivaloganathar, an incarnation of Lord Shiva and His Consort is Soundaranayaki who is none other than Goddess Parvathi. The Shiva Lingam here is considered to have come from an Anthill and is regarded as a Swayambhu and so is the Nandhi. On entering the Temple the Dwajasthamabam, Bali Peedam and a Huge Nandhi are shifted slightly to the right so that Saint Nandanar who was one among the 63 Nayanmars could view the Presiding Deity even from outside. Lord Ganesha is said to have harvested a Sacred Tank for Saint Nandanar on Lord Shiva's order and the huge Sacred Tank could be seen even today. Hence Lord Ganesha is called by the name Kulam Vettiya Vinayagar. Severe famine reigned here during the time of Raja Raja Chola and hence it is said that he had gifted 12 Velis of land to this Temple. The Temple is located in a sprawling area and is kept immaculately clean with the huge Sacred Tank adding to its beauty. There is a lovely Nandavanam within the Temple which is well fenced.
