This project aims to study the effects of elevated temperature and iron enrichment on the microenvironment and ecophysiology of Mediterranean corals using high-resolution
respirometry technologies. Iron is a crucial micronutrient for coral metabolic processes, and although its concentration in seawater is low, Mediterranean coastal waters receive iron via
runoff discharge from land. By measuring the corals' metabolic responses to elevated temperature and iron availability, the study aims to evaluate the health status of Mediterranean corals and their physiology, which can serve as a tool to understand the extent of environmental changes, predicting the consequences on the Mediterranean Sea in the short and long term (presented by Walter Dellisanti from the University of Copenhagen, Marinbiol.
